Vitis Regulatory at RSC Workshop on Evaluating the Reliability and Relevance of Environmental Exposure Data

Chesney Swansborough and Claire Gibson attended the Royal Society of Chemistry workshop on Evaluating the Reliability and Relevance of Environmental Exposure Data on 24 March 2026 in London.

The workshop brought together regulators, academics, industry, and consultants to explore challenges in applying the CREED (Criteria for Reporting and Evaluating Exposure Datasets) framework—a structured approach for assessing the reliability and relevance of environmental exposure and monitoring data.

Drawing on experience within our team, including prior work by Chesney Swansborough applying the CREED to large-scale monitoring datasets in a previous role, we contributed to discussions on current challenges, shared experiences, ongoing developments, and future directions for the framework.

Application of the CREED framework ensures that data limitations are transparent and clearly documented. However, challenges remain in the application of the CREED framework. A key discussion point was how to combine datasets of differing quality and reliability, particularly from data with differing analytical methods.

Overall, the workshop highlighted both the progress made and the need for continued development of the CREED framework, alongside engagement with those undertaking monitoring activities to ensure that sufficient information is reported to enable robust evaluation.
